HALLOWEEN came early for BOY GEORGE last night when he celebrated his 50th birthday with a host of freakishly-dressed pals.

The DJ, real name George O'Dowd, looked delighted as he draped his arms around the brightly-clothed oddballs to toast his big day.

The wacky bash bought back memories of George's early years when he kick started the New Romantic movement at the famous Blitz club.

In an effort to brighten up London's nightlife in the early 1980s, George and his buddies took to wearing bizarre homemade costumes and excessive amounts of make-up, resulting in a highly androgynous appearance.

With the exception of a few extra wrinkles, George's iconic image remains intact.

As well as a host of transvestites, George, sporting a black top hat, was joined by a selection of PVC-clad ghouls and other creepy-looking creatures, some clad in bondage gear.

One man even had his head fixed inside a bird cage.

Celebrities at the bash at LightBox Club in Vauxhall included JODIE MARSH, JODIE HARSH, DJ BRANDON BLOCK, SONIQUE and MARTIN KEMP.

A source at the party said: "Boy George looked to be having a great time.

"It wasn't for the faint-hearted. Some of the outfits were a little weird."

George rose to fame in the 1980s as frontman of Culture Club, making headlines with his trademark appearance.

The band went on to release hit records including Karma Chameleon and Do You Really Want To Hurt Me, before breaking up in the late 1980s.

His 50 years hasn't been without drama too - overcoming a heroin addiction, an ongoing battle with depression and more recently a stint behind bars for falsely imprisoning a male escort.

His eventful life also includes a cameo role in action TV series The A-Team in 1986, in an episode titled Cowboy George.

In addition he set up his own market stall in London's East End in 2008 to sell budget clothing and has written songs for the BEACH BOYS, CHARLOTTE CHURCH and MICA PARIS.

Earlier this year George announced a 30th anniversary reunion with Culture Club and the group will release new material in 2012.
