LEGEND of pop and disco Boy George makes a rare appearance in Manchester this weekend tipping up to DJ at, where else, village superclub Essential's Big Name Bender night.

Aside from a long a distinguished career as both pop chameleon and author George was also one of the first high profile British pop stars to fully embrace club culture playing gay benefit dates at the Haçienda and other northern strongholds in the acid house heyday.

Furthermore his then record label also put out the near legendary acid house anthem - the provocatively titled Everything Starts With An E by E-Zee Posse, a record that Graeme Park would often play at the peak of his famed Saturday night sets with Mike Pickering.

Since then he's had his ups and down culminating in 2002 with a riotous musical Taboo about the Eighties London club scene of Steve Strange, Marilyn and self-made work of art Leigh Bowery.

With competition being strong in clubland at the moment Essential is pulling out all the stops this weekend as the regular team of DJs are joined by Fedde Le Grand Vs Ida Corr who'll be performing their single Let Me Think About It. (bum) Le chanteur Boy George a récemment comparu devant les tribunaux pour agression sexuelle.

Le procès de l'ex-chanteur de la formation Culture Club a débuté jeudi dernier (22 novembre), où celui-ci est accusé d'avoir agressé sexuellement un Norvégien dénommé Auden Karlsen.

Ce dernier soutient que l'ex-star l'aurait menotté au lit, puis menacé avec des jouets sexuels.

À sa sortie du palais de justice, Boy George a refusé de révéler des informations nouvelles à l'égard de ce procès, tout comme le procureur Nicholas Paul. Ce dernier a seulement déclaré que la séance concernait un événement s'étant déroulé le 28 avril dans l'appartement du chanteur, rapporte Daily News.

Karlsen soutient pour sa part qu'il aurait rencontré Boy George grâce à un site Internet. Il aurait ensuite accepté de se faire photographier pour un montant environnant 840 $. Lors de leur rencontre, l'ex-star et un autre homme auraient plutôt joué aux sadiques, capturant leur victime.

« J'étais convaincu que j'allais mourir », a révélé Karlsen au Daily Mail.

S'il est déclaré coupable, Boy George risque un emprisonnement à vie. Il retournera en Cour en février prochain.

L'icône androgyne des années 1980 a également comparu en justice en 2005 pour possession de drogues.

Le chanteur britannique Boy George, accusé d'avoir enchaîné un "escort-boy" à un mur de son domicile, sera jugé le 25 février prochain devant un tribunal de Londres.

Le procès de George O'Dowd, de son vrai nom, s'ouvrira au tribunal de Snaresbrook (nord-est de Londres) le 25 février, a décidé le Thames Magistrates' Court, qui a laissé le chanteur en liberté sous caution.

Célèbre dans les années 80 pour des tubes comme "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?", Boy George était présent à l'audience, vêtu sobrement d'un costume noir. Il a simplement confirmé son identité et sa date de naissance.

Il a été inculpé le 13 novembre, mais la police n'a pas détaillé les faits lui étant reprochés, indiquant simplement qu'ils étaient survenus le 28 avril dans l'appartement du chanteur dans le quartier branché de Shoreditch, dans l'est de Londres.

En août, l'ancien chanteur de Culture Club avait troqué le micro pour un balai, purgeant une peine d'une semaine de travaux communautaires à New York après avoir faussement déclaré un cambriolage à son appartement de Manhattan.

Boy George a quitté Culture Club en 1987 pour mener une brève carrière en solo avant de se reconvertir en DJ et de lancer sa propre marque de vêtements, B-Rude.

The gay entertainer was on the decks at 3am amid hundreds of revellers, when a lurking solicitor sidled up to the DJ stand.

Amid the writhing bodies and pumping music the lawyer, disguised as a clubber, handed the pop star a piece of paper. Thinking it was an autograph-hunting fan, the DJ duly obliged with a quick signature - which will now cost him £36,000 - the cash he owes after being sued by a club promoter.

Le papier a été présenté à Boy George le dimanche 11 novembre, alors qu'il animait une soirée au club gay Essential à Manchester, selon le cabinet d'avocats engagé par la promotrice Kasia Saleh. Le chanteur avait annulé sa participation à une soirée organisée par Saleh à Los Angeles après son arrestation en octobre 2005 pour possession de drogues à New York. Boy George doit par ailleurs paraître devant un magistrat le jeudi 22 novembre après son inculpation pour «faux emprisonnement» d'un escort dans son domicile londonien
