The queer entertainer had been scheduled for a 2005 launch performance at Los Angeles' Club GAY USA. In exchange for his presence and talents, George received about 10,000. Unfortunately Georgie Boy pulled out ten days before the Halloween appearance. Why? He had to deal with a coke charge back in London.

The infuriated club promoter, Kasia Saleh sued. After years of legal wrangling, Saleh's finally getting some payback. A judge ordered Boy George to cough up over £31,000 - or about $63,000!

Boy George has been ordered to pay more than £31,000 for pulling out of a concert in Los Angeles.

He got nearly £5,000 to launch a gay club in 2005 but the event flopped when organisers received just 10 days' notice of his decision to quit, Manchester's high court was told.

The former Culture Club frontman, 46 denied the claim at an earlier hearing.

He said he had returned to Britain after his arrest on a cocaine charge and was in no state to play clubs where drugs may have been used.

Le chanteur pop britannique Boy George a été condamné à s'acquitter d'une compensation de 31.000 livres sterling (quelque 44.800 euros) pour avoir annulé tardivement une prestation dans un club gay de Los Angeles.

La sentence a été prononcée par une cour de Manchester, qui a entendu la plainte de Kasia Saleh, patronne du club lésé, avertie trop tard de l'absence de l'ancien chanteur du groupe Culture Club à sa fête d'Halloween en 2005. Boy George devra donc dédommager l'organisatrice pour le manque à gagner occasionné et autres frais divers.

Absent pour le jugement, Boy George avait expliqué à la cour lors d'une précédente audience qu'il était rentré en Grande-Bretagne après une arrestation pour possession de cocaïne, découverte dans son appartement new-yorkais, et qu'il était préférable qu'il ne se rende pas dans des clubs où pouvaient circuler des drogues.

The behind-the-scenes Broadway documentary "ShowBusiness — The Road to Broadway" will hit stores in October.

The 104-minute documentary, which was written by director Dori Berinsten and Richard Hankin, is scheduled to arrive Oct. 16 on the Liberation Entertainment label.

The film follows four Broadway musicals from inception through the 2004 Tony Awards. The musicals include Wicked, the hit Stephen Schwartz musical at the Gershwin Theatre; Avenue Q, the Tony-winning musical at the Golden Theatre; Taboo, the short-lived Boy George musical produced on Broadway by Rosie O'Donnell; and Caroline, or Change, the much acclaimed musical by Tony Kushner and Jeanine Tesori, which was directed by George C. Wolfe.

"ShowBusiness," according to press notes, "provides an insightful and entertaining never-before-seen look at the inner workings of Broadway musicals, from casting and staging to the previews and red-carpeted opening nights, . . . [capturing] the hard-work ethic, imagination and triumph in putting on a Broadway musical."

Among those interviewed for the documentary were Rosie O'Donnell, Boy George, Euan Morton, Anika Noni Rose, Stephen Schwartz, John Tartaglia, Kristin Chenoweth, Harvey Fierstein, Tony Kushner, John Lithgow, Bobby Lopez, Jeff Marx, Idina Menzel, Liza Minnelli, Tonya Pinkins, George C. Wolfe and Alan Cumming; the latter co-produced the film.

Special features on the DVD release will include audio commentary with director Berinstein, producer Cumming and Avenue Q co-creator Jeff Marx; over 60 minutes of deleted scenes; Tony Award promotional spots; and trailers.
