L'ancienne star de la pop s'est rendu coupable de "violences gratuites", a estimé le juge David Radford, du tribunal de Snaresbrook, dans l'est de Londres, en prononçant la sentence.

De son vrai nom George O'Dowd, 47 ans, Boy George était accusé d'avoir enchaîné le Norvégien Audun Carlsen, 29 ans, à un mur de son domicile londonien et de l'avoir frappé.

Le juge a stigmatisé un acte "prémédité", "impitoyable" et "dégradant" qui a "traumatisé" la victime. "On l'a privé de dignité", a ajouté le juge en parlant de l'escort boy.

Lors de son témoignage devant le tribunal, Audun Carlsen avait raconté sa visite le 28 avril 2007 au domicile de Boy George à Shoreditch, un quartier chic de l'est londonien, pour une séance de photos dénudées.

Il avait affirmé qu'à son arrivée, l'ancien chanteur de Culture Club, aidé d'un complice, l'avait menotté, attaché à un anneau scellé dans un mur de sa chambre, puis frappé à plusieurs reprises en le traitant de "pute".

L'"escort boy" avait ajouté que Boy George avait alors sorti une boîte contenant des chaînes métalliques, des objets sexuels et des lanières en cuir. Il était parvenu à s'enfuir, en sous-vêtements, en dévissant l'anneau du mur à l'aide des menottes.

Boy George, qui n'a pas témoigné, avait admis devant les policiers avoir menotté son invité qu'il avait rencontré sur un site internet, parce qu'il le soupçonnait d'avoir trafiqué son ordinateur. Mais il avait nié l'avoir frappé.

Carlsen avait estimé que cet épisode avait été provoqué par son refus d'avoir des relations sexuelles avec le chanteur, lors d'une précédente rencontre à l'appartement de celui-ci en janvier 2007.

La star, célèbre dans les années 80 pour des tubes comme "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?" ("Veux-tu réellement me faire mal?"), a quitté Culture Club en 1987 pour mener une brève carrière en solo avant de se reconvertir en DJ et de lancer sa propre marque de vêtements, B-Rude.

Boy George and the male escort he imprisoned were behaving like “drug-crazed idiots” during the infamous incident which led to the singer's conviction, his barrister admitted today.

Adrian Waterman said the star's continuing battle with cocaine addiction contributed to his actions in April last year.

He called for the musician – whose real name is George O'Dowd – to receive a suspended rather than custodial sentence at a hearing today.

Mr Waterman told Snaresbrook Crown Court, in East London: “He's on the way up. The fact that he is, when sober, a kind and generous man means there is no shortage of people to help him through his recovery.”

The barrister said O'Dowd would need time to pay £5,000 costs and added that many celebrities had written to the court in his defence.

At his trial, where O'Dowd was found guilty of false imprisonment, the court heard that he told police that he had chained Norwegian Audun Carlsen to his bed in his flat in Shoreditch, East London, in April 2007 while he investigated alleged tampering with his computer.

O'Dowd and Mr Carlsen first met through a social networking site primarily for gay and bisexual men and they parted on good terms, even though the former Culture Club frontman suspected Mr Carlsen had hacked into his computer. The singer paid the younger man £300 of the £400 they had agreed.

In the next few weeks, they exchanged e-mails in which the singer accused Mr Carlsen of breaking into his computer system but then said that he would be “perfectly happy to see you naked asap”. He referred to Mr Carlsen's “heavenly butt” and eventually they agreed to meet for a second time.

It was when Mr Carlsen returned to the flat that things took a violent turn. After calling Mr Carlsen into his bedroom, O'Dowd and another man leapt on him, wrestled him to the floor and started beating him.

The court heard that, during the attack, O'Dowd was screaming “F****** whore! Now you're going to get what you deserve”. He said he was dragged along the floor towards the bed and a manacle was put on his right hand and attached to a hook drilled in the wall.

The second man left, and O'Dowd produced a plastic box containing chains, sex toys and leather straps, Snaresbrook Crown court was told.

Mr Carlsen told the court he was then able to use the handcuffs as a tool to unscrew the hook from the wall. He ran to the door with O'Dowd pursuing him, lashing out with a metal chain. He managed to escape and ran out on to the street in just his underwear screaming for help.

O'Dowd told police: “I asked him to come (back to my flat) because I wanted to find out if this guy had borrowed my stuff.

“I got a friend there because I wanted to make sure he didn't leave so I could check the computer and his phone. The friend was just there in case he tried to stab me or take a hammer to me.”

He denied to police that he punched or assaulted Mr Carlsen or swung a chain at him as the escort fled the flat, and suggested the bruises Mr Carlsen sustained could have been due to the fact that he was HIV positive.

Mr Carlsen told the court that O'Dowd concocted the story about computer tampering so he could punish him for not having sex during the first meeting. He said: “I think he couldn't handle the refusal – me not having sex with him.”

The defence claimed that the dispute was over whether Mr Carlsen had stolen photographs and the suggestion it was because Mr Carlsen refused to have sex with O'Dowd on the previous occasion was “entire fantasy or a lie”.

O'Dowd, who swept the streets of New York in orange overalls in 2006 as his punishment for wasting police time after admitting to falsely reporting a burglary at his Manhattan apartment, looked grim-faced as the jury found him guilty of falsely imprisoning the male escort.

Boy George has said he refused to give evidence at his trial for false imprisonment to spare his dying mum the heartache.

The 47-year-old was found guilty last month of handcuffing a male escort to a radiator and beating him with a chain during a drug-fuelled photoshoot.

He now fears that when he is sentenced he will be jailed, but told his family he'd rather serve time than have caused Dinah O'Dowd – with whom he has a close relationship – any further pain.

His brother David said the troubled star told him: “I know the likelihood is I'm going to prison, but I couldn't do it for mum's sake. She's dying.

“The only reason I didn't give evidence was for her. She's been through too much in her life already.” George, real name George O'Dowd, will appear at Snaresbrook crown court today to learn whether he will be jailed for holding male escort Audun Carlsen in his East London flat in 2007.

The maximum term for the offence is life.

The former Culture Club frontman claimed he detained Norwegian Carlsen because he suspected he had stolen photos from his laptop and wanted to check the computer.

‘INNOCENT'

David claimed he told him: “He is stitching me up because of the money he knows he can make.

“I'll probably get sent down for this even though I'm innocent.

“But that doesn't matter. What matters is I'm clean and I'm sober. The only reason I didn't give evidence in court was because I didn't want put Mum through any more pain.”

In 2007 Dinah, 70, wrote a book called Cry Salty Tears about the 40 years of abuse she suffered at the hands of George's dad, Gerry.

At the time she said in an interview: “Georgie has been my best friend over the years. When Gerry raised his hand to me, Georgie was often there to stop him.”

George is also close to brother David, who in 1986 revealed the singer's heroin addiction to a tabloid newspaper in a bid to shame him into giving up drugs.

David said: “If he goes to prison, he goes to prison. But I'll stand by him because he's my brother and I love him to bits.”

George rose to fame in the 80s with Culture Club, had a solo career and then established himself as a successful DJ.

His early success was blighted by his drug addiction, with concerns that he may even die from his heroin habit.

There have been further concerns for his health of late after he was seen looking tired and bloated.

Ok, du temps de Culture Club, quand le succès et l'argent étaient au rendez-vous, le vieux George n'était pas non plus une bombe atomique, certes, mais sous ses flonflons et autres colifichets, le carnage passait comme une lettre à la poste.

Mais aujourd'hui ? Rien, il ne lui reste rien. La seule raison pour que l'on parle encore de lui est la séquestration qu'il a infligée (grand dieu le pauvre) à un certain Audun Carlsen, tapineur notoire, le 28 avril 2008.

La victime, traumatisée, lui colle un procès au fesses et ça risque de lui couter chérot, à la vieille Boy George.
