As you may know, I am a member of the Matthew Jones London Choir. This February 17th-19th, we are joining with the Birmingham branch of the choir to record a limited edition EP with Boy George to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Rehearsals start next week & I’m now on a mission to raise as much money as possible for this wonderful organisation which provides nurses for terminally ill patients & care for their families. Obviously this is a subject very close to my heart because not only have I been touched by this realm of situations that we collectively call Cancer, but a close member of my family has too & I am dedicating my participation in this event to her.
The EP that is released will celebrate the great Italian ballads of the 60’s – in particular, those that became English-version hits including ‘Io Che Non Vivo (Senza Te)’ (Dusty Springfield’s ‘You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me’), ‘Il Mio Mondo’ (Cilla Black’s ‘You’re My World’) and ‘La Vita’ (Shirley Bassey’s ‘This Is My Life’).
Boy George needs no introduction as most will remember him as the lead singer of Culture Club, performing such hits as ‘Karma Chameleon,’ ‘Do You Really Want To Hurt Me’ & ‘The Crying Game.’ He later went on to an illustrious career as an international DJ & throughout his fabulous career, has always made me smile with his wit & general attitude to life. As a fellow Tweeter, I am often in awe of his ability to handle even the most challenging of comments. In my eyes, he is & will always be a Legend & I was so thrilled to be behind him, in the Gods of the Royal Albert Hall on May 5th 2011, singing with the choir as he sang Dusty Springfield’s hit ‘You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me.’ Boy George also comes from my current home….Eltham.
Now, you can also own this limited edition EP because anyone who sponsors me for £10 or more will receive the CD! Having heard the Italian versions of these songs, I have one word to say……beautiful!
As most people I know are online & I have to personally hand the sponsorship money in at each choir rehearsal, I’ve had my thinking cap on & with the help of my dear friend, Keith Owen, I have set up this page.
