• BOY GEORGE DANCES TO A NEW TUNE

AFTER 30 years in the music industry Boy George says he considers himself “lucky” to be still working.

The 50-year-old pop singer is now a dance DJ and has set up his own label VG Records but still performs with his Eighties’ band Culture Club. Boy George, real name George O’Dowd, says: “Dance people want to be on a high. They don’t want to cry but there’s a greater emotional investment when you play pop music live. At the Isle of Wight Festival we did the most raucous performance of Karma Chameleon.”

George, who is now teetotal, says he mixes up his Culture Club image with his DJing and slaps on the face paint. “There’s pressure on me to turn up dressed a certain way. Being me does come with a certain amount of responsibility.”
